| Denver
Samoyed Rescue (DSR) was officially formed in 1993 to assist
abandoned, unwanted, or otherwise neglected Samoyeds find new homes.
The group functions as a committee of the Denver Samoyed
Association (as approved by the DSA governing board) and works with
individuals, local animal shelters, as well as the local All Breed
Rescue Network, and the national Samoyed Club of America Rescue
coordinator.
It is also the goal
of DSR to help educate the public about the Samoyed breed, to
counsel owners who are considering surrendering their dogs to work
through their problems so the dog may remain with them, and upon
request, to aide law enforcement officials with evaluating bite
cases. DSR also acts as
a safety net for breeders who have lost track of a puppy they've
placed, and as another possible source of information for
owners who have lost their Samoyed. All dogs placed by DSR will be spayed or neutered before
going to a new home, or a foster home, in order to prevent further
overpopulation of the breed.

Why Surrendered |

We may not have the
Samoyed your are looking for right now but that can change very
quickly, so we
encourage you to:
-
Complete our
adoption
application
and mail it the PO Box listed below. Our process is to first
review the approved applicants we have on file. If we determine
that a family is a good match for the Samoyed that enters into
our program, we will not take the extra step of listing the dog
on our web site.

Phil |

We feel Phil is a
Samoyed mix. DDFL says he is a Chow Chow. You decide for
yourself.
Our volunteer visited
with Phil and this is their feedback:
He is a puppy, looks
like a puppy and acts like a puppy! He is smaller in size, but
he will fill out. He pulls on a leash, doesn't know any
obedience commands yet but is food motivated and willing to learn.
He does like to jump up, but I had LOTS of kisses and slimy
glasses by the time our visit ended!
Very soft mouth taking
treats, some soft puppy mouthing on occasion.
Phil is not thrilled
about grooming, but nothing aggressive and nothing that good
training can't rectify. He didn't mind the manicure though!
Very curious, loves
toys, lots of energy. He checked out beautifully when
our volunteer performed basic temperament testing on him.
He will need a strong
but kind owner that will provide some boundaries.
He has been introduced
to both large and small dogs, male and female, with no negative
reaction, just the usual curiosity. No information on
cats yet. |

Samoyed/Siberian Husky
Mix.
Hi, hi, hi! I'm Sam,
a great big, happy, handsome Northern-breed kind of guy! Sam the
Samoyed, maybe with some Siberian Husky mixed in ... who knows! I'm
about a year and a half old, so I'm done growing on the outside. In
fact, I'm over-done and a couple of inches taller than most other
Sammies and Sibes! But I weigh only 54 pounds right now and need to
fill out some more. As for being done with growing emotionally ...
nope! In dog ages I'm still a teenager and full of curiosity and the
desire to get out and explore. In fact, if I can, I'll get out and
explore with you or without you! See, that's how I lost my last
home. So let's not do that again, okay? Start with a tall fence, and
if it has a gate then it needs a latch that can be secured, and then
mix in lots of time and activities with you! When there's nothing
else to do, our breeds like to dig and chew. Face it ... we both
need exercise anyway. Wouldn't you like to be out walking a gorgeous
guy like me? Chances are that I'll like just about everyone I meet.
That's a good thing! Unless you're looking for a big, scary guard
dog. Forget that! It's just not in the Northern-breed nature. Kids?
Sure! Except that, while I'm still fairly young and bouncy, I'm
afraid I might knock over the little ones. Down the road when I'm a
little older and more settled there will be no problem with young
kids. Cats, rabbits, hamsters, squirrels? Oh, yeah! We love to chase
them and catch them and ... and it's better if we're not expected to
live peacefully with them. Other dogs? Maybe, maybe not. We'll have
to get together and see if it will work out with us being in the
same pack. Speaking of which, you and I will need to work on that
leader-follower thing. Samoyeds and Siberian Huskies are
independent-minded, and sometimes we don't do what you ask because
we don't see a reason to! So you'll need to be firm, calm, and have
a sense of humor for when things don't quite work out the way you
expect them to! People with dogs like us also need to be relaxed
about living with fur. My coat may or may not get longer and more
like the typical Samoyed's, but it's guaranteed to shed hair that
you'll find on your clothes, on your carpet, in your car.Sticky tape
and lint brushes will get it right off your nice business suit or
black dinner dress. But I'm just saying ... be prepared! Well! Ready
to meet? I am Sam. Sam I am! I just may like green eggs and ham! But
until I find out, why don't we go for a walk together? |
